If you need to change your wedding date after booking, contact your coordinator before cancelling services or announcing a replacement date. Ask for written confirmation of available dates, how payments already made will be treated, and the full cost of moving.
For couples with a Malay wedding package, the change can affect the venue, catering, pelamin and bridal arrangements together. Work through these questions before accepting a revised booking.
Check how your request will be recorded
Explain precisely what you want to change. Postponing your own reception, switching venues and transferring a booking to another couple are different requests.
Ask whether the venue will amend your existing agreement or treat the request as a cancellation followed by a new booking. That distinction matters when discussing deposit credit and cancellation charges.
Read the signed contract alongside your quotation, payment receipts and any written promises made when booking. Look for notice deadlines, limits on date changes, transfer restrictions and charges that increase nearer the event.
If illness or a family emergency has prompted the request, ask whether any compassionate arrangement is available and what evidence is needed. Check any relevant emergency clause without assuming it guarantees a waiver.
Confirm the new date and the deadline to decide
Send two or three realistic alternatives, including your preferred lunch or dinner session. Ask for confirmation of the exact event space, access time, reception hours and whether another function affects setup.
An available date still needs to become a confirmed reservation. Find out whether the venue can hold it while you check key suppliers, when that hold expires, and what payment or paperwork secures it.
Also ask how long you have to use any postponement credit. Does the wedding need to take place before an expiry date, or must you simply select a date by then? Clarify what happens if no suitable date is available within that period.
Establish exactly what happens to your deposit
Request a written breakdown of every payment already made. Ask how much will carry forward, whether any amount will be deducted, and which services each deduction covers.
Separate an administration fee from costs for work already completed, such as printed invitations or personalised items. Ask for an explanation of each charge so you can compare the revised bill with your original agreement.
For illustration, suppose you paid S$6,000andthevenueagreestocarryforwardS$5,500 after a S$500deduction.IftherevisedpackagecostsS$24,000, the remaining package balance would be S\$18,500. These are example figures, not published venue charges.
Confirm whether any additional fee is payable separately, so the same deduction is not counted twice. Ask when the next instalment falls due and whether existing payment deadlines remain active while your request is being considered.
Ask for the full revised package price
A replacement date may involve a different rate, especially if you change the session, day or year. Request a complete quotation showing the guaranteed guest count, rate per person, venue charges, applicable taxes, service charges and extras.
If fewer guests can attend, ask whether you can reduce the minimum guarantee. A smaller expected turnout does not automatically change the amount you agreed to pay.
Check whether promotional benefits and complimentary items carry forward. If the new package costs less, ask whether the difference reduces your outstanding balance, becomes restricted credit, or is handled another way.
When considering alternative Malay wedding venues, confirm whether a move involves a different contracting company. Get written approval for any payment transfer between bookings.

Reconfirm every included service
Review your accepted package item by item. Package materials on the website describe bundled elements such as catering, pelamin decorations, bridal services and invitation cards, but your own signed inclusions should guide the discussion.
Ask which services are confirmed for the replacement date and which are still awaiting supplier approval. Check these details in particular:
- Whether the agreed pelamin design and decorations remain available.
- Whether your selected bridal outfits and makeup arrangements can move.
- Whether the menu, tasting arrangements and buffet service duration stay the same.
- Whether invitations need reprinting and who pays for completed work.
- Whether any included accommodation can move to the new date.
For separately booked suppliers, request individual written confirmations and revised charges. Identify who will coordinate any replacement supplier and how you will approve changes to the agreed service.
Clarify whether another couple can take over
If you cannot use the booking, ask whether a transfer to another couple is permitted before advertising it or accepting money.
Request the venue’s approval process, transfer fee and deadline. Confirm whether the incoming couple must retain the original date, guest guarantee and package, or whether changes require a new quotation.
The transfer agreement should explain how your existing payments are credited, who pays the remaining balance and whether you are released from further payment obligations. A change of contact name alone does not tell you whether those obligations have ended.
Ask how any reimbursement between you and the incoming couple should be documented, and when it should take place. Keep the venue’s payment records separate from payments exchanged privately.
Also confirm what happens if the incoming couple withdraws before the transfer is completed. Until the paperwork is final, get clarity on who remains responsible for the booking and its deadlines.
Check the nikah arrangements separately
If your nikah date is also changing, check the marriage application separately from the reception contract. Moving the venue booking does not update your solemnisation details.
Singapore’s Registry of Muslim Marriages guidance states that a marriage application expires 150 days after submission. A postponement beyond that validity period requires a new application. Confirm the permitted new date and amendment process for your circumstances before committing to the reception.
Check availability with your Kadi or Naib Kadi and coordinate with your wali and witnesses. If only the reception is postponed, make clear which ceremony arrangements remain in place. This helps avoid cancelling services that you still need for the original nikah date.
Get the revised agreement before announcing the date
Ask for a signed amendment or replacement agreement that records the new date, session, venue, guest guarantee, inclusions, total price, payment credit and remaining instalments. It should also explain which original terms continue to apply.
Check the rules for any further postponement or cancellation. Ask whether notice periods and charges will be measured against the original wedding date or the replacement date, and what happens if you need to move again.
Before sending updated invitations, confirm that the venue and essential suppliers have accepted the arrangements. Keep the revised contract, receipts and correspondence together.
To discuss an existing booking, contact Malay Wedding Venue with your booking reference, original date, preferred alternatives and expected guest count. Request one written proposal covering availability, payment credit, revised costs and the deadline for accepting it.
